Subject renewal

Subject renewal is a process to co-design subjects, with teachers' expertise and students' experience, that will sharpen content and assessment and intentionally develop the capabilities for students to thrive.

All subjects will benefit from renewal through the learnings from our previous strategy. This will enable us to focus on:

  • deeper, real-world learning that is more relevant to students
  • creating the conditions for capabilities to develop
  • updating our approach to assessment through new forms of evidence.

The role of teachers is more important than ever. Subject renewal will enable teachers to play a greater role in student learning, understanding where each student is at in their development, knowing when to provide support, and when to step back and allow them to flourish.

Our first step is to engage all teachers in Curriculum Forums to introduce the change we are seeking, and begin to identify quick from complex improvements.

We will gather insights from these forums to then form subject renewal groups to co-design and test changes with teachers and students.
