Overview
Our General Studies subjects allow students to choose learning topics that match their personal interests and goals.
Learners can explore a complex issue that covers many subject areas, choose an area of individual or local interest, or plan learning goals for the future.

The research project gives students the chance to explore an area of interest in depth. Learners choose a research topic and question and can use a variety of research methods to gather evidence.
Past topics have included the creation of black holes, fine motor skills, the future of Indigenous languages, dyslexia, and music and movement.
Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF)
Exploring Identities and Futures (Stage 1) prepares students for their SACE journey and equips them with the knowledge, skills, and capabilities required to be thriving learners.
EIF supports students to explore their aspirations. They are given the space and opportunity to extend their thinking beyond what they want to do, to also consider who they want to be in the future. The subject supports students to learn more about themselves, their place in the world, and enables them to explore and deepen their sense of belonging, identity, and connections to the world around them.
Activating Identities and Futures (AIF)
Building on the learning from Stage 1 Exploring Identities and Futures (Stage 2), Activating Identities and Futures (AIF) aims to foster independent learning and the skills of lifelong learning in students.
AIF requires students to take greater ownership and agency over their learning as they select, test, and explore relevant strategies and perspectives in the pursuit of a Learning Goal of their choice. Students will develop greater awareness and understanding of their own thought processes, decision making, and organisation in relation to the learning process.
Students examine the purpose of research, explore research approaches and develop their investigative and inquiry skills. They gain skills in planning and undertaking research, data analysis and presenting research findings. This subject, taken in Stage 1, can help students prepare for the research project.
Students undertake a focused study that draws on more than one discipline. They can explore complex issues by making connections across disciplines, and developing creative or innovative solutions.
Examples of issues that may not fit within one discipline include climate change, water quality, poverty, homelessness, or skills shortages. These may cover specific local needs or interests.
Students explore a real-world situation, task, event, or other learning opportunity that is relevant to their local context and has meaning for them. Study areas could include STEM activities, arts and culture, health and wellbeing, literacy, and numeracy, or innovation.
Students develop skills in critical thinking and collaboration. They also learn about themselves and what they are capable of. This subject provides life skills and enables students to contribute to society as active and informed citizens.
Community Connections supports students interested in a SACE Stage 2 subject by allowing them to demonstrate learning in alternative ways. It values their strengths, fosters curiosity, and empowers independent, self-directed learning.
Industry Connections provides students who have an interest in a particular industry area to develop and apply their skills, knowledge and understandings about that industry, while developing their capabilities and employability skills through an industry-related project.
