Public consultation is an important part of the Subject Renewal process. It ensures proposed subjects benefit from a diverse range of perspectives and helps us refine and strengthen the subject before it progresses towards accreditation.

• the relevant Stage 1 subject outline snapshots (Essential English, Music, Language Continuers) 

• how the key drivers of Subject Renewal are reflected in curriculum and assessment design.

Why are you consulting on both the curriculum and assessment model and renewed subjects?

The renewed subject outline snapshots are examples of the new curriculum and assessment model in practice. Consulting on both allows stakeholders to provide feedback on the broader direction of curriculum and assessment and how it is reflected within individual subjects.

Who can participate?

Anyone with an interest in the future of learning and assessment in the SACE is welcome to participate, including students, teachers, school leaders, tertiary and industry stakeholders and professional associations.

Do I need to teach the subject being consulted on to provide feedback?

No. We welcome feedback from anyone with an interest in the future of learning and assessment in the SACE. Some consultation questions are specifically tailored to subject teachers.

How do I participate?

Simply access the consultation survey and follow the prompts. The survey contains the consultation materials, explanatory videos and opportunities to provide feedback throughout the process.

Do I need to review any materials before completing the survey?

No. The consultation survey includes the information, videos and excerpts needed to support your participation. You will be guided through the consultation materials as part of the survey.

The time required will vary depending on how much detail you choose to engage with and the level of feedback you wish to provide. The survey includes consultation materials, videos and opportunities to provide feedback throughout the process.

Can I provide feedback on only some aspects of the proposal?

We encourage participants to engage with the full consultation, you do not need to provide detailed feedback on every aspect.

Can I provide feedback on implementation, resources or professional learning?

Yes. While implementation support materials are not the focus of this consultation, participants are welcome to provide specific feedback on matters that may support successful implementation of the renewed subject.

What kind of feedback is most useful?

The most valuable feedback is: 

• specific 
• constructive 
• informed by your experience and expertise 
• focused on opportunities to strengthen the proposed curriculum and assessment model or subject outline.

Yes. Public consultation is designed to gather a broad range of views. We welcome both positive feedback and suggestions for improvement.

We will consider all feedback received through consultation and make appropriate refinements before the subject outline progresses towards accreditation.

Will every suggestion be adopted?

Not necessarily. Feedback will be considered alongside evidence gathered throughout the Subject Renewal process, educational research, curriculum requirements and accreditation requirements. Not all suggestions can be incorporated, but all feedback will be reviewed. We will share key insights, themes and outcomes with participants.

What is accreditation?

Accreditation is the formal quality assurance process through which proposed SACE subjects are formally reviewed and approved for use in schools.

Does participation in consultation mean the subject has already been approved?

No. The subject is a snapshot in draft form. Public consultation is occurring before accreditation so that feedback can inform progress towards accreditation.

Are the consultations only about individual subjects?

No. While each consultation focuses on a specific subject, the renewed subject outline snapshots also demonstrate how the new curriculum and assessment model is being applied in practice. Feedback will help inform both the further development of the subjects and future Subject Renewal work across the SACE.

Am I seeing the complete subject outline?

No. The consultation materials provide a snapshot of the proposed renewed subject and are designed to support feedback on its overall direction and design. Some elements, including performance standards and subject content (where applicable), will be developed further following consultation and added before the subject progresses to accreditation.

Yes. Subject Renewal is a multi-year program, and further opportunities for consultation will be made available as additional subjects progress through renewal.

Why are only Stage 1 subjects being consulted on?

Subject Renewal is being implemented in stages. The current consultations focus on Stage 1 Essential English, Music and Language Continuers as they progress towards accreditation. Further information about future priorities and timelines will be provided as Subject Renewal continues.

Public consultation is intended to influence the development of renewed subjects. Seeking feedback at this stage allows stakeholders to comment on the proposed direction while there is still an opportunity to make meaningful refinements before accreditation.

What happens after consultation and accreditation?

Following consultation, feedback will be reviewed and used to refine the subject outline before it progresses towards accreditation. 

Following accreditation, 2027 will focus on implementation readiness activities, including professional learning, resource development and support for schools and teachers. The renewed Stage 1 Essential English, Music and Language Continuers subjects are planned for first teaching in 2028.
