Staged Renewal
Staged Renewal enables selected subjects to benefit from key enhancements before undergoing full renewal. This pathway focuses on introducing targeted changes that can strengthen learning, assessment and capability development, while building towards future full renewal.
Staged Renewal will include identifying subject-specific opportunities such as:
- incorporating the Thrive 5 capabilities
- assessment condition changes aligned with Deep Authentic Learning and Natural Evidence of Learning
- strengthening learning and assessment practices to build AI resilience
These changes allow students and teachers to benefit sooner from the outcomes of subject renewal, while maintaining stability and continuity within existing subjects.

Phases of Staged Renewal

Identify Opportunities
Explore opportunities to introduce enhancements aligned to the key drivers of subject renewal. This phase focuses on understanding the subject context, identifying areas of greatest impact, and determining which enhancements can be implemented ahead of full renewal.
Develop and Implement
Develop and implement agreed enhancements within the subject. This may include:
- incorporating the Thrive 5 capabilities
- assessment condition changes aligned with Deep Authentic Learning and Natural Evidence of Learning
- strengthening learning and assessment practices to build AI resilience
Transition to Full Renewal
Use the experience, evidence and enhancements gained through Staged Renewal to inform future Full Renewal. This phase supports a smoother transition to comprehensive subject redesign when the subject is prioritised for Full Renewal. As subjects are identified to progress into Full Renewal, we will communicate with SRGs and subject communities, providing clarity about upcoming activities, expectations and opportunities to be involved.
