Overview
Our General Studies subjects allow students to choose learning topics that match their personal interests and goals.
Learners can explore a complex issue that covers many subject areas, choose an area of individual or local interest, or plan learning goals for the future.
The following subjects are available:
This subject helps students plan personal and learning goals, including decisions about personal development, education and training. The PLP looks at learning pathways and helps students to choose the subjects they will study in Years 11 and 12.
The Personal Learning Plan is often undertaken at Year 10, before students begin their SACE studies.
Students undertake a focused study that draws on more than one discipline. They can explore complex issues by making connections across disciplines, and developing creative or innovative solutions.
Examples of issues that may not fit within one discipline include climate change, water quality, poverty, homelessness, or skills shortages. These may cover specific local needs or interests.
Students explore a real-world situation, task, event, or other learning opportunity that is relevant to their local context and has meaning for them. Study areas could include STEM activities, arts and culture, health and wellbeing, literacy, and numeracy, or innovation.
Students develop skills in critical thinking and collaboration. They also learn about themselves and what they are capable of. This subject provides life skills and enables students to contribute to society as active and informed citizens.
