South Australia launches the SACEi scholarship to attract the best and brightest to the University of Adelaide

2 September 2021 (embargoed until midnight 1 September 2021ACST)

A scholarship launched today is the keystone of a new partnership between SACE International (SACEi) and the University of Adelaide. Sealed with a COVID-safe elbow-bump, this Cooperation Agreement increases commitment to the SACE pathway to tertiary study at the University of Adelaide.

SACE Board Chief Executive Professor Martin Westwell said that this partnership increases the international profile of the SACE.

"We've known for years how transformative our SACE program is, and increasingly so does the world,” he said.

"By formalising our partnership with the University of Adelaide, we're confirming to all South Australians and the world what a quality education our students are receiving.

"This partnership means our SACEi students can look forward to visiting lectureships and SACEi teachers to additional training opportunities.

"By working together, SACEi and the University of Adelaide have a more substantial opportunity to expand into existing and new markets.

"This is an inspiring day for education in South Australia."

The scholarship* offers a 25% tuition fee reduction to international students enrolling in an undergraduate degree at the University of Adelaide after successfully completing the SACEi program and demonstrating their passion for learning and loyalty to Australian education.

University of Adelaide Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Jacqueline Lo said she is excited to launch this scholarship for international students joining the University of Adelaide from overseas.

"We want to secure more of the best and brightest students, she said.

"When we combine these overseas SACEi students with our exceptional domestic students, the diversity and talent are amazing.

"This is why students from abroad and all over Australia choose to study at the University of Adelaide.

"Looking at the bigger picture, once borders reopen, this also means more jobs for South Australians, with international students consuming goods and services while studying in South Australia.

"Deloitte research has modelled that for every three international students who study here in South Australia, our state GDP grows by over $150,000 and creates one new job.

"The University of Adelaide is proud to be partnering with SACEi."
