Meet the artist

Graice Della-Torre, Minister for Human Services Regional Encouragement Award recipient

How do you feel to be an award winner at the 2020 SACE Art Show?

It’s an absolute honour after seeing the high level of submissions. I was delighted to receive the news of winning this award on behalf of regional South Australia.

What was the inspiration behind your work?

I was inspired by using existing infrastructure to connect my natural environment to my local community, which is where I got the idea about designing a utility box wrap.

Tell us about the creative process you took with your work.

Firstly, I consulted with a local business which gave me a basic design brief that I could work with which was flora and fauna. I then researched different artists suitable for this type of design. I adapted these designs using Photoshop and Indesign to achieve a scaled utility box. I then had further contact with my client (local business) to finalise the end product. I produced my final product using Photoshop program to rearrange my design to scale.

What advice would you have to Stage 2 Visual Arts students in 2020?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help with your work. Having someone else’s opinion is so important for a design brief. Be creative and think outside the box.

What pathway have you taken after your SACE?

I will be studying a Diploma of Interior Design at TAFE in semester 2. I have also been active in introducing myself to Adelaide interior design companies. This has been my passion for a very long time. I would love to eventually work as an interior designer for a professional interior design business.
