Quality Assurance

The SACE program maintains high standards across all schools through a strong quality assurance process. This ensures that student work is consistently evaluated and reported according to established performance standards.

Quality Assurance Cycle

The quality assurance cycle guarantees the integrity of student assessments and reporting. This cycle includes four stages: planning, clarifying, confirming and improving. Each stage plays a vital role in ensuring fair, valid and reliable results for students.

Planning Phase

  • Purpose: To design learning and assessment opportunities that allow students to demonstrate their learning.
  • Actions: Teachers create a teaching and learning program, supported by the SACE Board's Learning and Assessment Plans (LAPs) for each subject.

Clarifying Phase

  • Purpose: To ensure teachers understand and consistently apply Performance Standards.
  • Actions: Teachers engage in professional learning through online modules provided by PLATO, and review sample student work provided by the SACE Board.

Confirming Phase

  • Purpose: To rigorously assess student work and ensure consistency in grading.
  • Actions: Teachers assess student work and assign grades (A to E for Stage 1, A+ to E- for Stage 2) based on performance standards. Schools participate in moderation to validate assessments.

Improving Phase

  • Purpose: To enhance the quality of teaching and assessment practices.
  • Actions: Schools receive feedback from the SACE Board, which helps refine assessment designs and teaching methods for better results.

Support for Schools

School leaders and teachers have access to extensive support to build their knowledge in quality assurance. This includes:

  • Clarifying Courses: Available through PLATO to help teachers understand performance standards.
  • Professional Learning: A comprehensive calendar of workshops, events and learning opportunities published annually.
  • Assessment Panels: Opportunities to join Stage 2 assessment panels by submitting an expression of interest.

The Quality Assurance Cycle reflects a commitment to maintaining high standards, fostering consistency, and continuously improving the SACE program.
