Stage 2 Assessment Type 3: Examination

The Auslan (continuers) examination consists of two assessments: an interactive sign examination and a sign comprehension and sign production examination that are assessed externally

Interactive sign examination
The interactive sign examination takes approximately 15 minutes and has two sections: 

  • Section 1: Conversation and Discussion (approximately 7 minutes) 
  • Section 2: Presentation and Response (approximately 8 minutes). 

Sign comprehension and sign production examination
Students undertake one sign comprehension and sign production examination, which has two sections: 

  • Section 1: Watching and Responding to Informal Signed Texts 
  • Section 2: Watching and Responding to Formal Signed Texts. 

The length of the sign comprehension and sign production examination is 2 hours, plus 10 minutes' viewing or reading time. Instructions for students are on a DVD in Auslan and written in English.

Stage 2 Assessment Type 3: Examination (from 2027)

The Auslan (continuers) examination consists of two assessments: an interactive examination, and a comprehension and production examination that are assessed externally.

Auslan Interactive Examination
Students undertake their interactive exam in accordance with the VCAA study design and specifications.

Auslan Comprehension and Production examination
The examination will commence with 10 minutes to read and/or view instructions. This will be followed by 2 hours of viewing and recording time to complete the examination. The examination will be marked by an assessor panel appointed by the agency that produces the examination.
